Rutland First World War Commemoration Parade OAKHAM TO LANGHAM
Saturday 2nd August 2.30pm
Members of the public are being encouraged to attend or support the Rutland First World War Commemoration Parade, which will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd August 2014.
Starting from Oakham School’s Kilburn Road Recreation Ground, the parade of Cadets from E Company, Leicestershire Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet Force, joined by the Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry will march from Oakham to Langham. This march will be a commemoration of events 100 years ago. Following the declaration of war on 4th August, just two days later members of the Oakham Company of Territorials (5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment) responded to duty’s call, and were given a rousing “send-off” as they marched out of Oakham en route for Loughborough, later to take their places in the trenches in France and Flanders.
Please note that in order for the parade to be undertaken in a safe manner, there will be short closures of the road in sections from Oakham through Barleythorpe to Langham as the parade passes. Drivers are requested to respect the short disruption, which should be no longer than 10 minutes at each road junction, and to follow the advice of stewards.
