Officers from Leicestershire Police conducted a 'Fatal Four' operation in Oakham, Rutland and surrounding areas today.

Officers from Leicestershire Police conducted a 'Fatal Four' operation in Oakham, Rutland and surrounding areas today.

The operation targeted four of the main offences related to the use of public roads: speeding, failing to wear a seatbelt, drink and drug driving, and using a mobile phone while driving.

Over 100 tickets were issued for excess speed, using a mobile phone while driving, and failing to wear a seatbelt. People were dealt with for possession of drugs, People were arrested for drug driving,  vehicles were seized for driving without insurance, and other people were issued words of advice relating to their manner of driving.


The police say that these statistics are unacceptable. They point out that the risk of a pedestrian dying is four times higher when they are hit at 40 mph than when they are hit at 30 mph.

Leicestershire Police say that they conduct these operations to save lives, prevent serious injuries, and detect and disrupt criminals. They remind drivers that the law is in place for their safety and the safety of other road users.
