Open day at Market Harborough police station proves a hit!
Open day at Market Harborough police station proves a hit!

A fly past by the police helicopter was the highlight of a very successful open day at Market Harborough Police Station.
The police invited local people into the station on Saturday 29th September 2012. They were joined by colleagues from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Neighbourhood Watch and members of the Harborough District Community Safety Partnership who gave out fire safety and crime prevention advice and local officers and Police Community Support Officers were on hand to show visitors around the equipment.
There were bouncy castles and fun fair rides for smaller children and people could sit in a police car, look around the cells and try on officer’s helmets and stab vests. Visitors were also encouraged to sign up to immobilise – the national property registration scheme.
Inspector Paul McKinder, Commander of Market Harborough Local Policing Unit, said; “I could not believe what an amazing turn out we had. The station and car park was full with people all day and the atmosphere was great. People were really enjoying themselves, talking to local officers, asking lots of questions and receiving lots of advice. People of all ages came to look around and lots of children took part in a colouring competition and I now have the difficult task of choosing a winner.
“The owner of the fair kindly donated £50 from his takings which we will be giving to a local charity. We were all surprised when the helicopter flew over and we could see the pilot and co pilot waving at everyone. It was a day that will not be forgotten and I’d like to thank PC Paul Hardwick and Sergeant Phil Durrant, for working so hard to make the day a great success.”
