Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd, Plan, to be considered at Oakham Town Council meeting this Wednesday

undefined

APP/2012/0665/PG (MAJR)   Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd
Demolition of vacant college buildings and erection of a retail store (use Class A1),
car parking, servicing, recycling facility, biomass boiler, landscaping and associated
highway works including the creation of a new access road to Lonsdale House and
new roundabout at junction of Barleythorpe Road and Lands End Way
The Rutland College Barleythorpe Road

This Wednesday 7.30Pm Oakham Town Council will be considering Sainsbury's
planning application.

Unless Councillors have listened to their ward residents views and consider
the application before them, it is highly likely the council will recommend this
application is rejected by Rutland County Council.

At a discussion at the last full council meeting nearly all councillors expressed
there objections. Led by Councillor Lockett. saying, "this is likely to be one of the
worse applications approved by Rutland County Council"

If this is true and clearly so, because Rutland County Council are desperate to receive
"their gift" (Rutland Times) from Tresham once the sale is completed. This I believe
is one of the reasons Waitrose pulled out at the last minute, probably unfortunate words
for the paper to use. I am not sure its the worse plan they are likely to approve. My view is
one tidy is building is better than the collection of shabby buildings that are currently on site.

I hope Sainsbury will show a little more consideration towards the fine collection of trees
these include the red woods. they are currently showing little consideration.

Tree warden Councillor Lucas who is often not afraid to pass the death sentence upon the
odd healthy tree, expressed her concern suggesting "mass devastation."

I think the Town Council should use this opportunity to make known their objections
and lobby for changes to the plans rather than just voting no.
