Remembrance Service and Parade Broad St Stamford Stamford

Remembrance Service

Sunday, November 13th

all welcome. The parade will meet at 10.30am at Star Lane, marching up to the war memorial at 10.50am. The service is open air and will be conducted by the Rev Canon Dr Donald Gray, Honorary Chaplain of the Stamford Branch of the Royal British legion (RBL Chaplain), assisted by the Mayor’s Chaplain and other Chaplains.

10.30am
The Stamford Brass Band, ex-Service Detachment, and other marching units will assemble with Standards in Order of March (Annex A) in Star Lane (facing the United Reformed Church) and St. Paul’s Street under the command of the Royal British Legion Parade Marshal. The Parade must not move off before 10.50am.
The Piper will play on the terrace of Browne’s Hospital.

10.50am
The ex-Service Detachment and other marching units, led by Stamford Brass and Standard Bearers, will march along Broad Street to the War Memorial under command of the Royal British Legion Parade Marshall.

10.55am
The Bugler will take up position on the steps.
The Lord Lieutenant (or his Deputy), RBL Chairman, Past Mayors, Mayoresses, Councillors, and the Civic Party will assemble on the terrace of Browne’s Hospital.
The RBL Chaplain, Mayor’s Chaplain and other Chaplains will take up their positions on the pavement as shown in Annex B.
The Choir will take up position on the steps
Marching Wreath Bearers will leave their units and will take up position with other Wreath Bearers in front of the Parade as directed by the Wreath Marshals.
The Wreath Bearers of the Navy, Army and RAF will take up position to the right of the War Memorial entrance as shown in Annex B.
The Officer in Charge of the RAF Detachment will take up position as shown in Annex B and take over as Parade Commander.


10.56am
The Parade Commander will call the Parade to ATTENTION as the Lord Lieutenant (or his Deputy) and RBL Chairman move to the centre of the terrace. Former Mayors, Mayoresses, Councillors and other members of the Civic Party will move towards the end of the terrace. The Choir will move to the staircase as shown in Annex B.
The Parade Commander will salute.
When the terrace party is assembled, the Parade Commander will stand the Parade AT EASE. Stamford Brass will stop playing

TWO MINUTE SILENCE
10.57am
The Parade Commander will call the Parade to ATTENTION.
The RBL Chaplain will say an introductory prayer.
The President of the Stamford Branch RBL will say the Exhortation.
The ‘Last Post’ will be sounded.

11.00am
THE TWO MINUTE SILENCE WILL BEGIN AT THE END OF THE ‘LAST POST’.

The President of the Stamford Branch RBL will say the Kohima.
The Parade will remain at attention.


WREATH LAYING
15 Seconds after the Kohima, the Mayor of Stamford will receive and lay the first wreath on the War Memorial.
The Navy, Army and RAF Representatives will, separately, lay the second, third, and fourth wreaths.
The Parade Commander will stand the Parade AT EASE for the remainder of the wreath laying.
The Piper will play during the remaining wreath laying.
Wreath Bearers will lay their wreaths in the following groups, as guided by the Assembly Marshals, after which they should return to their units. Private civilians will lay their wreaths last.

2. The Royal Engineers Association St John Ambulance Brigade
3. Stamford School Combined Cadet Force Salvation Army
2 Sqn (Stamford Detachment) Army Cadet Force Lincolnshire Fire Brigade
2071 (Stamford) Sqn, Air Training Corps The Royal Antediluvian Order
St John Ambulance Cadets of Buffaloes
5. Stamford Scouts & Stamford Guides 6. Any other wreaths.

SERVICE
The Service will follow the service sheet available on the day

NATIONAL ANTHEM
After the Blessing the Parade Commander will call the Parade to ATTENTION for the National Anthem.
The Parade Commander, all Service Officers and all Detachment Commanders will salute and hold through the National Anthem. Standards will be dipped throughout. The Parade will remain at attention throughout. Male civilians not in the Parade will remove hats. Mobile telephones will remain switched off.

The Mace Bearer, Mayor of Stamford and the Navy, Army and RAF Representatives will go up to Browne’s Hospital for the March Past and Salute. The Parade will remain at attention.

MARCH PAST, SALUTE, MARCH OFF & DISPERSAL
The Officer in Charge of the Military Detachment will return command of the separate civilian detachments to their own Commanders.
The Standard Bearers and RBL President will take post on the left of the ex-Service Detachment. Non-Marchers and anyone unable to keep up with the pace are asked to fall out.
The Stamford Brass will take post on the left of the Military Detachment.
The Children’s Groups will remain at the War Memorial until all Detachments (including the Military Detachments) have marched past.
The ex-Service Detachment, and other marching units will march off under the command of the Royal British Legion Parade Marshal. They will salute the War Memorial as they march past and return to Star Lane for dismissal.
The Cadet Units will march off, as directed by the Assembly Marshal, following the ex-Service Detachment.
Stamford Brass will then lead the Military Detachments, playing the ”Royal British Legion March”, as they march off, paying due respect to the War Memorial, to return to Star Lane.
Finally, the members of the RBL Riders Branch will ride slowly past the War Memorial
The Lord Lieutenant (or his Deputy) will acknowledge from the terrace the respects paid to the War Memorial.
