Residents living near Kendrew Barracks (formerly RAF Cottesmore) are being advised of the possibility of a small amount of noise disruption

Kendrew Barracks Training

Residents living near Kendrew Barracks (formerly RAF Cottesmore) are being advised of the
possibility of a small amount of noise disruption for one week during February.

As part of their preparations for deployment to Afghanistan, soldiers from 2 Royal Anglian will be participating in a light infantry training exercise, taking place during week commencing 11 February,
which involves the limited use of blank firing ammunition.

The army have informed Rutland County Council that training will be restricted to daylight hours
only (there will be no activity during the evening) and will be positioned on the furthest corner of
the base, away from nearby homes, to minimise any impact it might have.

Councillor Martyn Pocock, Ward Councillor for Cottesmore, commented: “I’d like to thank
2 Royal Anglian for providing advance notice of this training and for carefully considering and
minimising any impact it might have.  These are not large scale manoeuvres, but just some
light infantry training on the base, with limited use of blank firing ammunition, and only during
daytime hours.  It’s very important that their training is as realistic as possible in order to
prepare them for any challenges ahead.”
