Oakham Mayor Alf Dewis, Digs Deeper, Sainsbury's Planning, Rutland Radio News

A final decision on whether Sainsburys builds a new store in Oakham could depend on its proposals on traffic management says Oakham Mayor Cllr Dewis on Rutland Radio News.

Sainsburys are being told Oakham Town Council could support its plans for a new store if traffic management issues are ironed out. Its a bit late for that they have vote against.

The Town Council has recommended proposals to build on the old Rutland college site be turned down.

Rutland County Council has the final say on the matter.

Oakham Mayor Alf Dewis digs his hole deeper on Rutland Radio News, he and all members of
Oakham Town Council voted against public opinion.

Fortunately the Town Council is a weak and pathetic body and I am sure Rutland County Council take little notice of their decisions. Cllr Adam Lowe Deputy Mayor and chairman of planning at the Town Council said members don't comment on plans because it is felt Rutland County Council ignore them.i say that is pathetic and question why we have a Town Council if it has become that week when it comes to influencing what goes on in and around our town.

Cllr Dewis says the council is not against Sainsbury trading in Oakham, so why did every member vote
against the application. Why did they not consult with Sainsbury before the application was presented? Cllrs said it is not their job to influence Sainsbury's plans. So what is their job? Surely it is a town councils role to ensure the best outcome for residents? And not just pop up on the Radio when
you realise you have upset the old guard.

I sat in at the first meeting when the plans were discussed, many members discussed how it would personally effect them. when it came to second meeting and the vote, the majority voted based on there personal opinions. Cllr Lucas who says she never looks at my blog insisted she had spoken to numerous ward residents and unlike her first comments, her vote was not based on personal thoughts. If only she was speaking the truth.

No members of the public attended either meeting to speak for or against the application so it does not surprise me. it went the way it did.

Of course some of the public and the old guard who hate Tesco are now angry with the town council, It is about time the council woke up and saw what the general public think of them.

As for Cllr Dewis the local business voted by not attending your Oakham Town Partnership breakfast meeting. That should send you a clear message, you and your fellow councillors are not as popular
as you like to think you are...

If you are for or against the application and want your say you can do that by contacting Rutland County Council who will tell you how you can get your voice heard. There are strict time limits so don't leave it to late.
