The by-election was called after the resignation of Tony Mathias the Conservative Leader.
I think the Conservatives knew they had lost the election today even before the poll had
closed.
The reason being the leaflet delivered to the ward. A large number of voters are effected
by the Town Centre Plans and the first line of Chris Clarks letter printed on the leaflet
was the killer.
The Conservatives took to delivering letters to selected houses on polling day trying
to explain the mistake in what Chris Clark had said. I am not sure how it can be a mistake
the man is honest and he simply said he supported the one way system.
It is possible the Conservatives broke the law by committing an Offence of campaigning within a prescribed area. I know of one household not far from the polling station received letters for both voters.

The election of Cllr Lowe should be interesting. I observed a incident between Cllr Lowe and Conservative Cllr James Lammie. The Conservatives are not very forgiving and can be very bitter
Cllr Lowe a paid up Conservative stood against his own party and won.
