Rutland County Council Public CCTV Meeting

Rutland County Council Public CCTV Meeting

Yesterday evening Rutland County Council put on a public meeting for
resident affected by the introduction of CCTV in Princess Avenue
Oakham Rutland.

Once again the Council apologised for lack of consultation.

Residents present were shown an example of the privacy feature.

Residents were not happy.

One resident raised the issue of camera operators being able to view their
bedroom, although concerned about this the resident did state there was not
much action to see.

Leicestershire Police were present and spoke about their desire to have
a system that works.

Although Rutland County Council had told residents the area had become
a bit of a crime hotspot, a resident referred to the home office website which
indicates almost no recorded crimes for the area.

One of the Oakham Town Councillors challenged one of the Rutland
County Councillors responsible for this project, he has email a response:

Subject: oakham cctv press announcement

Hi Richard

It was stated this evening by one of your members that there was no press release relating to extending cctv.

I stated that there had been – long before any issues arose, but that on reflection it could have been more detailed.

This was met with incredulity.

Could you please forward this email and  the link below to Mssrs Lowe, Mills and Brookes who were present at the meeting?

Again – I agree we could have said more, but that is with the benefit of hindsight.

Please note the date way back in March, and that no questions were forthcoming at that time.

Kind regards,

Alan

It is hoped Rutland County Council will be looking to move the pole to a new
position that will please all residents.

The attendance by residents was not very good.

A Rutland County Council employee said they had hand delivered
invitation to 60+ homes. This morning I was told some residents did not
receive an invitation.
