Rutland County Council review its Marriage registration fees after an investigation by the Local Government Ombudsman.

Rutland County Council review its Marriage registration fees after an investigation by the Local Government Ombudsman.

The Rutland Times has reported the above.

The story refers to fees I don't believe this is reflecting the true story.

I am told it should relate to people being forced to pay hundreds of pounds to hold their weddings
in the Castle rather than the registrars office.

I compared Rutland County Councils fees with Leicester City Council and apart from one
they are the same.

A marriage at a Place of Religious Worship will incur a fee to the Minister of the Building in addition, if a Registrar is required to register the marriage, a fee of £86 is payable on the day.
This is £90 in Leicester.

The cost of getting married in Oakham Castle is

£399 from Monday-Friday, rising to £500 for a Saturday and £520 for a Sunday ceremony.

Personally I never see the attraction, a place once use for people to eat and sleep, later a court room, it might look better once its decorated.

Also despite being forced to pay a large fee to use the castle of course like any wedding it is a public event unless you very rich and famous so anyone could turn up and often they do not to watch the
wedding but to view the horseshoes because the hall remains open for tourists if you book a Thursday you will enjoy Cllr Lucas's knit and natter group which meet in the side room.
