The Chair reminded the panel that a Free School was completely independent to the
council but that the panel was entitled to make comments to the Department for
Education. Miss Waller stated that if the Panel wanted to make comments she would
pass them to Cllr Bool, Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People.
Following a brief discussion, the Panel agreed the following comments to pass
forward to the Portfolio Holder:
1. Young people should have choice in their school and learning environment and
the panel welcomed choice for young people.
2. The panel had not been convinced that there was enough supporting data to
show that there were enough students in Rutland to make a further school viable;
and any decision maker must be confident that the cohort of students exists
before approving any further post 16 education provision in Rutland.
