Rutland Road Update What to Expect This May

by Martin Brookes,

Travelers across Rutland should prepare for a busy stretch of maintenance and upgrades throughout early May. A mix of essential utility work, broadband expansion, and road resurfacing will affect several key routes, with most major road closures scheduled overnight to help keep daytime traffic moving.

Major Road Closures

The most significant impacts will be felt in Burley, Ketton, and South Luffenham. While most resurfacing is happening under the cover of night, some utility work will require daytime access:

Hall Lane (South Luffenham): Cityfibre will be active from May 4 to May 11 (8am–6pm) to install new internet ducting.

Oakham Road (Burley): Overnight resurfacing from May 4 to May 7 (7pm–5am).

Cottesmore Road / Burley Road: A quick overnight resurfacing project from May 7 to May 8 (7pm–5am).

High Street (Ketton): Overnight resurfacing from May 11 to May 13 (7pm–5am).

Cottesmore Road (Ashwell): 24-hour sewer repairs by Severn Trent on May 11 and 12.

Traffic Management & Pedestrian Impacts

In Oakham, drivers should watch for temporary two-way signals. Tyne Road will see continuous signals from May 4 to May 7, while Braunston Road will have signals during off-peak hours (9:30am–4:30pm) between May 11 and May 13.

For those on foot, the E137 footpath in Whissendine remains closed for a long-term bridge replacement, with a projected reopening in early November.

Local authorities advise residents to plan ahead, especially if traveling during the evening transition when resurfacing crews begin their shifts.
