Rutland school children attend special service to celebrate their county at Peterborough Cathedral

Scores of schoolchildren from Whissendine, North Luffenham and other schools in Rutland will attend a special service of Choral Evensong at Peterborough Cathedral on Sunday 26th February 2017, at 3.30pm.

The pupils will attend the service at the invitation of the High Sheriff and the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland. The service aims to reflect the diversity of the county and will be attended by people from many different walks of life.

The children, with The Reverend Janet Tebby, will lead the prayers. They will also lay a giant “Rutland Horseshoe” at the altar during the service, and present thoughts on the county motto: “Multum in Parvo”.

The Rt Revd Donald Allister, Bishop of Peterborough, will preach and Dr Sarah Furness, The High Sheriff of Rutland, will give a reading from the Bible. Also reading will be Mr Stephen Benard, The Sheriff of Rutland, Vermont, USA.

Rutland has been part of the Diocese of Peterborough, of which Peterborough Cathedral is the ‘mother church’, since the Reformation.

All are welcome to join the service and the congregation should be seated by 3.10pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the South Transept, hosted by the High Sheriff.
