Peter Cropper Violin
Moray Welsh Cello Martin Roscoe Piano Martin Cropper Violin Louise Williams Viola The Cropper Welsh Roscoe Trio comprises three of Britain’s finest chamber musicians: violinist Peter Cropper, ex-leader and founder member of The Lindsays, Moray Welsh, former Principal Cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Martin Roscoe, one of Britain’s finest pianists. They are joined for this concert by Martin Cropper, Peter’s son and the Music Director of the Music Academy in Sheffield, and violist Louise Williams, a founder member of the Endellion Quartet (as a violinist) and since a member of the Chilingirian Quartet, the Nash Ensemble and the Frith Piano Quartet. The concert is an examination of three works from Beethoven’s middle period published as Op. 95, 96 and 97. The string quartet in F minor is one of Beethoven’s shortest but it presages compositional techniques he would draw on in the late quartets. The violin sonata in G major is one of his loveliest, written with a “calm, ethereal beauty”. Finally the Archduke Trio is regarded by many as the greatest piece written for piano trio.
