Oakham Town Council, The Promotions and Working Group

Oakham Town Council, The Promotions and Working Group

At yesterdays council meeting Cllr Lucas and Haworth both gave long reports.

Cllr Dewis seemed to have awkward hat on once again, insisting Cllr Lucas went away a
came back with a full years programme of events instead of seeking approval for the
part programme she was presenting.

Councillors agreed that Cllr Lucas could book the bandstand for Proms in the Park 2014
The Rutland Concert Band is providing their time for free the event will be raising funds
for Help For Heroes.

The Odd One Out Competition is to be resurrected although this will be a lot of hard work
for Cllr Lucas.

On the subject of hard work for Councillor Lucas, Cllr Lowe tactfully as he could suggested
that other councillors might like to help her out with her various responsibilities that she volunteers
to do. Especially the Sunday summer tourist information point. Although Cllr Lucas would like help
she did make it known she did a lot of knitting whilst waiting for visitors.

The Catmose School awards proposal was deferred after Cllr Dodds woke up and said
what about the colleges and other schools why just Catmose? Cllr Lucas replied she had set
up various awards for primary schools, Cllr Dewis proposed they should look at including
Rutland County College.

Cllr Dewis asked why they had not organised the summer band concerts for next year.
Cllr Lucas said it was not their job after lot of discussion it was decided the working
group was responsible for setting the dates and the Clerks Job to book the bands.

I sit and wonder what the new intelligent councillors maker of this farcical council

So much time was wasted on petty issues last night planing matters were rushed.

It got better as it was the turn of Cllr Charles Haworth who suggested a balloon printed
with the town council logo was festive! and would add a lot to the festivities of the late
night shopping event.

He entered in a long discussion with Cllr Dewis about mince pies, Cllr Dewis wanted to
know why they could not  have some of the mince pies inside the chamber it was agreed
half would be in the gazebo outside and the other inside. £60 would be spent on mince
pies.

Cllr Dewis with his awkward hat on asked why can't Cllr Lucas hold her exhibition outside
in the gazebo? She responded I have a phobia of balloons if I am forced to be outside there
will not be an exhibition.

Cllr Woodcock said she was happy for there to be two locations on the late night shopping
evening although she did feel there was a need for a rota.

Cllr Stubbs said he could not walk to the Chamber and wondered where he could park his car.

Cllr Lowe said the council chamber should be open to the public as it was a little like them
visiting a museum.

I look forward to the day when the artefacts from the Town Council are consigned to the
junk store of Rutland County Museum.
