Tory Deputy Leader Terry Kings Response to Oakham Residents concern relating to the death of Oakham as a shopping destination

Tory Deputy Leader Terry Kings Response to Oakham Residents concern relating to the death of Oakham as a shopping destination

If it ever was? I  have lived here nearly 8 years and would not have given it that description when
I first moved here. Many shops have come and gone, the market has shrunk, I guess like many other
towns?

Tory Deputy Leader Responds to residents concerns, a fair but not 100% truthful repsonse.

I say that as he his is probably spitting fire at me sitting reading at his laptop.

The council can have an influance on the variety of shops, for example his council only rencently
approved a change of use for what some might consider is an anchor store location for Mill Street.
It will no longer be a retail outlet and will soon open as an estate agent.

The wife of a former Tory Councillor told me it is a better option, I sensed a little bit of Rutland
Tory snob as she described with horror!that a pound shop had shown an interest. Just the sort
of shop many people leave Oakham for, travelling by train to Melton or Stamford. That is the sort of shop that might keep shoppers in Oakham. The first off peak trains are always crowded with people escaping
the town and the last off peak returning trains sees a steady flow of people many carrying bags
from pound shops and other chains.

Oh dear! not another useless Town Centre Manager running
around town like a headless chicken annoying retailers.
What happened to the last two?

The last one was stupid she use to run in out of the bar of the
Whipper Inn taking my photogrpah to show town councillors
who were propping up the bar durring Town Partnership Events.
