Unloved Prince Philip Sculpture Faces Removal in Cambridge

Unloved Prince Philip Sculpture Faces Removal in Cambridge

A sculpture in Cambridge dedicated to Prince Philip is being removed due to its poor quality and negative impact on the surrounding area.

Nicknamed "The Don," the sculpture depicts a faceless figure and has been widely criticized.  A Cambridge City Council officer called it "possibly the poorest quality work" ever submitted to the council.

Adding to the controversy, the sculpture, estimated at £150,000,  was erected without proper planning permission. The Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service issued an enforcement notice demanding its removal.

The artist initially attributed to the work, Pablo Atchugarry, has since disclaimed any involvement.

Unless an appeal is successful, the sculpture must be dismantled and the land restored to its original state within four months of April 11th. Local Councillor Katie Thornburrow expressed relief at the decision, stating that "nobody seems to have a good word to say about it."

Here in Oakham we just have his head in a orchard with private property.
