Vandalism Strikes Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project

Vandalism Strikes Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project

The Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project has faced another setback due to acts of vandalism. Just two weeks after a new fence section was installed, it was discovered broken. Additionally, two Permissive Path signs along the section north of the bypass were ripped off.

The project team expressed their disappointment and frustration over these incidents. They emphasised that the permissive paths are only accessible by the goodwill of the landowner and that destroying signs is counterproductive. The damaged fence section has since been repaired, but the team is urging the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

MP Alicia Kearns, a local representative, recognised the hard work of the project volunteers and expressed her concern for the vandalism. Her comment highlighted the dedication and effort put into the project, making the incidents even more disheartening.

The Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project is a community-driven initiative aimed at improving the local environment and creating recreational spaces. Vandalism not only damages the project's infrastructure but also undermines the community's efforts to preserve and enhance their shared green spaces. It is essential for everyone to work together to prevent such acts and protect the valuable resources that benefit the entire community.
