Weather Disruptions: Council Responds to Fallen Trees and Flooding

Rutland County Council crews have been actively responding to weather-related disruptions across the region, focusing initially on clearing fallen trees that blocked local roadways near Cottesmore and Ashwell. The council has successfully made the immediate areas safe, allowing for partial reopening of a key route. Attention is now shifting to reports of flooding in Whissendine.

Road Closures and Reopenings

Emergency work was carried out to address trees that fell across roads, posing a hazard to drivers.

Main Street (Cottesmore and Market Overton): Following swift action by the council, one lane of Main Street, running between Cottesmore and Market Overton, has been reopened.

Teigh Road (Ashwell and Teigh): This road remains closed between Ashwell and Teigh. While the area has been initially secured, specialist tree surgeons are required to carry out further, more complex work, which must be completed safely in daylight hours.

Flooding Response in Whissendine

The council's focus is now moving to reports of standing water and flooding in the village of Whissendine. Crews are responding to issues specifically reported on:

Cow Lane

Main Street

Residents are advised to exercise caution when driving through affected areas and to follow any diversions or safety advice issued by the council or emergency services.
