Why doesn't Oakham Town Council, follow the correct legal procedure, when a Council Member is absent?
For years the Clerk has refused to give the reason for any Councillors absence from a meeting.
By doing this how can members vote approve the absence if no reason is given?
Recently The Town Clerk at Stamford Town Council reminded member of their obligation.
She said “When you are not able to attend the meetings, please let me have apologies and reasons. The council needs to approve the reasons and if they do not, that will set the clock ticking.”
I do think she went to far when reminded councillors that as town representatives they were expected to attend some of the events coming up, including Stamford Diversity Festival, the 500th year commemoration for William Cecil, a Battle of Britain event and a performance of the musical Cats.
