Wild Rutland Invites Community to Learn About Proposed Wildlife Park
Public Engagement Exhibition March 13th 2024
Wild Rutland, a proposed wildlife and British nature reserve on the Burley Estate in Oakham, is inviting residents to a public engagement exhibition on Wednesday, March 13th, from 2pm to 7pm at Victoria Hall.
Attendees can discover the plans for the reserve, its focus on increasing biodiversity, and the proposed public access to the currently private parkland.
The Wild Rutland team welcomes public input to shape the project and address any concerns.
The project aims to not only improve the local environment but also bring economic benefits to Oakham and Rutland through tourism.
While conservation and enhancing the biodiversity of the historic parkland are central to Wild Rutland's mission, the project also seeks to create a sustainable future for the Burley Estate. The team emphasises that:
Regenerative farming practices will be implemented to maintain the landscape and promote ecological health.
Native species introductions are planned, such as wildflower meadows, native trees, and potentially certain indigenous animals, to create a thriving habitat for diverse wildlife.
Community engagement is crucial, and Wild Rutland intends to involve the community throughout the development process.

The public exhibition will be an opportunity to meet with Wild Rutland's CEO, Hugh Vere Nicoll, and the project's architects.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend at Victoria Hall, 39 High Street, Oakham, LE15 6AH, between 2pm and 7pm on March 13th.
A pre-planning application for the 1000-acre nature reserve was submitted in December 2023.
A full proposal for Wild Rutland is expected later this year.
