A big thank you to Oakham School pupils, but a plea for public responsibility
I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to the pupils of Oakham School who recently volunteered their time to litter pick in Cutts Close Park. It's truly heartening to see young people taking such initiative and pride in keeping our community clean. Their efforts are commendable and undoubtedly make a real difference to the park's appearance and enjoyment for everyone.
However, while I applaud the dedication of these students, I must also confess to a sense of disappointment. It's a recurring sight to see children from various groups out litter picking in Cutts Close, and while their efforts are always appreciated, it begs the question: why is this necessary in the first place?
Oakham Town Council provides numerous bins throughout the park, strategically placed for easy access. These bins are regularly emptied, ensuring there's no excuse for littering. It's frustrating to see that despite this easy option, some individuals continue to disregard their responsibility and choose to leave their rubbish behind.
This issue isn't unique to Cutts Close, unfortunately. It's a problem that plagues many public spaces, and it's one that requires a collective effort to solve. We all have a role to play in keeping our community clean and enjoyable.
Therefore, I urge everyone who uses Cutts Close Park, and indeed any public space, to take responsibility for their own waste. Use the bins provided, dispose of your litter thoughtfully, and set a positive example for others. Let's work together to ensure that the tireless efforts of volunteers like the Oakham School pupils are not in vain, and that Cutts Close Park remains a place of beauty and enjoyment for all.
Thank you.
