William Ashley (Conservative Councillor) Hertford Heath, East Herts, GP Cars, chicken sheds, Monks Green Farm in Brickendon

A Tory district Councillor has been accused of abusing his position for financial gain.

Planning is the issue here, rather strangely planning in Hertford East appears to be the "baine" of  the Tories, just as it is here in Rutland, that is how Tory Roger Begy publicly described planning.

Mr Ashley the council former planning committee chairman, is accused of many things relating to personal planning matters. This appears to have been going on for many years now.

A complaint was raised by a parish Councillor of Brickendon Liberty Parish Council,  "The Parish Council is non-party political" now where have I heard that nonsense before? (Oakham Town Council) the Councillor requested anonymity, He gave examples in which he claimed Cllr Ashley had verbally abused him and another town Councillor. He said in the evidence that if they were identified: “It is without doubt that myself and others may be victimised, harassed, intimidated and feel threatened by the member.”

After his identity was revealed a complaint was sent to the council’s director of neighbourhood services Simon Drinkwater and the issue was raised at a East Herts Council meeting,  the sub-committee decided there had been a misunderstanding.

Rather like Rutland County Council, the Leader & Cabinet are Conservative.

An independent officer will be appointed to investigate whether Cllr William Ashley (Con, Hertford Heath, a former chairman of East Herts Council’s development management committee has breached the members’ code of conduct.

Members of the standards sub-committee decided this would be the best way forward at their meeting to examine the complaint against the Councillor.

My experience of so called appointed independent officers has proved Tory Councils don't understand the meaning of independent.
