Former Leicestershire Police Officer Found Guilty of Gross Misconduct
A former Leicestershire police constable has been found guilty of gross misconduct and would have been dismissed without notice had they still been employed.
The officer was accused of setting up their laptop to simulate online activity while working remotely during December 2023 and January 2024. This involved a key being pressed repeatedly to give the false impression of active work.
The misconduct hearing determined that the officer had deliberately deceived colleagues and supervisors by not carrying out their duties as expected. This breach of trust was considered a serious violation of the force's standards of honesty, integrity, and professional conduct.
Chief Constable Rob Nixon expressed disappointment in the officer's actions, describing them as "deliberate, dishonest, repeated and persistent." He emphasised the importance of providing high-quality service to the public and condemned the officer's betrayal of trust.
Due to welfare concerns, the officer's identity remains anonymous. They have since resigned from the force and have been added to the Police Barred List.
