Cllr Hemsley Walks Out of Heated Council Meeting Over Catmose Closure
Former Conservative (now independent) Rutland County Council leader, Oliver Hemsley, made a dramatic exit last night after expressing a strong lack of confidence in the current leader, Gale Waller (Liberal Democrat).
The tense atmosphere stemmed from a special council meeting called to decide the fate of Catmose Sports Centre.
The meeting became highly charged, with members of the public expressing visible distress as the council voted to close the centre. Hemsley, an independent councillor who previously belonged to the Conservative party, he voiced his disapproval before leaving the meeting entirely.
