Adam Lowe, Oakham, mayor’s annual reception to celebrate the work of people who have contributed in the community.

Last week Oakham's Mayor rewarded the councils old friends at the mayor’s annual reception to celebrate the work of people who have contributed in the community.

Oakham Mayor Adam Lowe

One of the most deserving recognitions went to Joy Everrit who has organised the Oakham Festival for the
last thirteen years, it's dwindling success should not be blamed on her, this was caused by large organisation
withdrawing funding, Joy is giving up this year but  I am sure she will find another project.

I hope the Oakham festival does not fold like the carnival sadly did. Such a pity the committee fell out and
Councillor Dodds gave the public's money away. A bigger pity the town council gave away the money with no restrictions attached

Also Oakham in Bloom was rewarded as it is every year. would be nice to see those who actually carry out the manual work rewarded instead of the hangers on who enjoy these sort of council jollies.

Sarah Outen who has not been well since her second attempt to travel around the world, has still raised a lot of money for charity well done.

Coun Lowe’s final award recognised 93-year-old Bill Schofield, a Second World War veteran and former Oakham mayor, for his services to country, county and town. Coun Lowe presented Bill with his award at his home.

I look forward to the day when we have a Mayor who looks further than those the council supports, there
are many unrecognised people in our town who do a lot of good and receive no recognition Maybe that's the way they like it?
