Re: money being allocated to defend council members against other council members. The only people who will benefit from such nonsense are the lawyers.
Instead, spend some time and money on an independent investigation.
If there is nothing to find the objectors can apologise.
I suspect as with all these things, there will be fault on all sides and the poor old man in the street will be given some kind of fudge in explanation. But, for goodness sake stop this posturing and s abre rattling at taxpayers’ expense.
As a point of interest, I once received an overpayment of salary when working for a government organisation.
I received a formal letter asking if I would like to repay by my personal cheque or have the correction made in my next salary payment.
Why overpaid employees at the council are not expected to do the same I cannot understand and furthermore has anyone been held accountable?
As Rutlanders we are subject to one of the highest council tax demands in the UK and as other contributors to the letters page have already noted, these councillors will be looking for our votes very soon.
Are they up to the job of managing these funds in taxpayers’ interests?
