2026 Conservation Project: Preventing Island Extinctions

Every year, Global Birdfair selects a flagship project to support through ticket sales and donations. For 2026, the fair is partnering with BirdLife International for the "Preventing Island Extinctions" initiative.

The primary focus is the Dwarf Ibis, a critically endangered species found on the island of São Tomé. With a population likely under 2,000 individuals, this project aims to:

Design practical conservation actions to reduce threats.

Protect at least three critically endangered endemic bird species in São Tomé and Príncipe.

Build local conservation capacity and raise national awareness.
