The Rutland Car Boot is designed for ease and accessibility, making it a favorite for locals and tourists alike.

For Buyers: The gates are open from 11am until 3pm. It’s the perfect midday activity for those who prefer a slightly later start than the typical crack-of-dawn boot sales.

For Sellers: There is no need to book a stall in advance. Sellers are encouraged to simply turn up from 10am onwards to secure their spot and begin setting up.

Pro Tip: Always check the official website at www.rutlandcarboot.com before you travel. Since the events are held on grass, rain or poor field conditions can lead to last-minute cancellations.

Important Note: As the season concludes on October 31st, make sure to get your fix of outdoor browsing before the winter break begins

A Night at the Movies, Rutland Sinfonia Brings Hollywood to Oakham

Get ready to swap the popcorn for a baton. On Saturday, 14 March 2026, the Oakham School Chapel will be transformed into a cinematic soundstage as the Rutland Sinfonia presents The Sound of Hollywood.

This isn’t just a concert; it’s a high-definition journey through the history of the silver screen. Under the vaulted ceilings of the chapel, a full-sized symphony orchestra will recreate the sweeping scales and intimate melodies that have defined modern storytelling.

The Program: From High Seas to Emerald Cities

The evening’s repertoire is a "Who's Who" of cinematic greatness. Whether you’re a fan of swashbuckling adventure or tear-jerking dramas, the setlist has something to pull at your heartstrings:

Adventure: Feel the spray of the salt water with the thunderous themes of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Magic: Defy gravity with the spellbinding arrangements from the hit musical Wicked.

Nostalgia: Take a walk through history with the poignant, feather-light melody of Forrest Gump.

Romance: Experience the soulful, soaring strings of Ennio Morricone’s masterpiece, Cinema Paradiso.

While we’re used to hearing these scores through cinema speakers or headphones, nothing compares to the physical power of a live orchestra. The "Sound of Hollywood" is designed to be felt as much as heard—from the deep rumble of the brass section during an action sequence to the delicate flutter of the woodwinds during a romantic monologue.

Detail     Information

Date     Saturday, 14 March 2026

Venue     Oakham School Chapel

Performer Rutland Sinfonia (Full Symphony Orchestra)

Vibe     Epic, Romantic, and Family-Friendly

Note: This event is expected to be a highlight of the local cultural calendar. Given the popularity of film music programs, early booking is highly recommended to secure your seat in the chapel.

Whether you're a die-hard cinephile or simply looking for a Saturday night out that feels a bit more "Technicolor," the Rutland Sinfonia is ready to provide the soundtrack. Don't forget to share the event with friends and family—after all, every great blockbuster is better with a crowd.
