Rutland County College Barleythorpe to become the King Centre

Rutland County Council say the centre will be given the name in honour of the former Conservative
leader Terry King who was leader for less than a year.

During his time on the council Terry King oversaw the failure of the small business units
just up the road from the slightly more successful prison site in Ashwell.

The council attempted to hide his smaller costly mistake but the auditors would not let them.

Cllr King did so much good for Rutland he oversaw the millions of pounds lost from
Hawksmead, he was also part of the Tory administration that has ruined Post 16 education
provision here in Oakham.

He is also responsible for the loss of community, sports, school and medical provision
offered by Hawksmead here in Oakham.

In 2011 Rutland County Council had a lot of money nineteen million in investment bank accounts
that was six years ago, it had so much much money back then it was able to lend its Tory friends at Brent Council £2,000,000 I wonder if that was ever paid back.

As a business man Terry Kings company was successfully prosecuted by the HSE twice whilst
he was a Councillor.

Terry King according to Oakham Mayor Adam Lowe decided how Oakham's £65,000 from
Hawksmead should be have been spent by the Oakham Town Partnership.

I appreciate the man is now ill, but personally I found the man offensive and still keep his emails
to prove that and in my opinion it is offensive to name any publicly owned building in his honour.

What happened to Rutland County Council Policy of not using the names of the living. When naming street and buildings?

Latest News

Scams – Please be aware of 2/3 males with white coats working door to door allegedly selling fish. They travel around in a white van and try to charge extortionate prices. This is a suspected attempt at fraud.

Beat Updates

Oakham & Barleythorpe – We continued to conduct ad-hoc traffic operations in February issuing traffic offence reports (TOR), to driver who were using mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts or having insurance to drive on the roads. I along with the North and Uppingham Beat Officers conducted a fatal 4 operation on Wednesday 22nd February in Rutland. We issued a few TOR's but the weather hampered our operation somewhat. Thank you. PC Joe Lloyd.

Rutland North – We have continued to work hard this month and have conduct targeted patrols on the North beat but have noted a dramatic increase in reports this month specifically over the past 2 weeks. We are arranging several planned operations this month and will be encouraging the local community to report suspicious activity to police through 101 to help us respond to these incidents. Thank you. PC Laurie Appleton.

Rutland South - Rutland officers are carrying out targeted patrols in areas previously identified as hare coursing hot spots in Rutland. This issue is ongoing and I would appeal to the community to report all sightings of hare coursing on 101 to assist police to tackle this concern. Last month saw continued reports of hare coursing reported to Rutland Police in the areas along the A47 corridor from Tixover to Uppingham, Ketton and Market Overton. Several persons and vehicles were identified as being suspected in taking part in this illegal activity. Thank you. PC Paul le Pla.

Uppingham - This month we have continued to conduct high visibility patrols along the main arterial routes and inner roads around Uppingham. We held a traffic enforcement day 22/2/17 where we dealt with drivers for using mobile phones whilst driving (now 6 points and £200 fine), having no Tax or Mot and parking in restricted zones. We will continue to monitor speeding and other vehicle offences and advise where we see bad parking, blocking pavements and driveways. Remember we can now seize vehicles for having no tax and members of the public are checking the DVLA website and reporting offending vehicles to us, so be aware and make sure your vehicle has the correct documentation to be on the road. We will continue with the initiative this month and look forward to seeing you out there and keeping you safe. Thank you. PC Pete Icke.

Paul Ford Tree Surgeon Pollarding Storm Damaged Tree Cutts Close Oakham Rutland

Paul Ford Tree Surgeon Pollarding Storm Damaged Tree Cutts Close Oakham Rutland

This tree was damaged by Storm Doris

Cllr Joyce Lucas sent us all an email saying she was arranging for the tree to be felled
on the day it was damaged.
She was reminded by our Chairman Adam Lowe, Councillors can't make unilateral
decision.

At last weeks meeting Cllr Lucas had a change of heart and said she was for the tree.

The tree is in a conservation area so planning permission is required before anything
can be done to the tree.

The office had confirmed previously that Paul Ford have made the tree safe.

In a report to Council it was suggested that Paul Ford and another firm had suggested
Oakham Town Council might like to pollard the tree and it may need to fell it later
on.

We had no reports or written quotations to consider and the majority of the council
decided the tree should be pollarded and agreed to pay up to £2500

The tree now looks a total mess and I would not be surprised if a report is not
made available for the next meeting saying the tree should be felled, costing
a few more thousands.

Our financial regulations state we should obtain value for money and the clerk
should check for this before issuing any work order the financial regulation
suggests what the clerk should look for, the chairman suggests I am misunderstanding
the regulation and Oakham Town Council doe not need to obtain quotes.

It is and has always been shocking that Oakham Town Council has never been
interested in obtaining value for money for the taxpayers.

Cllr Joyce Lucas certainly is not interested in obtaining value for money at the meeting
she called me a liar and a harasser and told members we don't need quotes let just get on
with it. If it was her own money I am sure she would not be saying this.

We did not need to waste money on pollarding we should have waited until we had
received advice from any expert.
