RAF Cottesmore is closing as a Royal Air Force station today with a ceremony to mark the occasion.
One year ago today saw a Church Service and Last march through Oakham.

the RAF ensign will be lowered for the last time at Cottesmore at 6pm.
Guests include Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Laurence Howard; High Sheriff of Rutland Peter Lawson, Oakham mayor Joyce Lucas, and chief executive of Rutland County Council, Helen Briggs.
The base will be handed over to the Ministry of Defence to become an Army base.
There have been various closure ceremonies over the last year

Troops from the 2nd Battalion the Royal Anglian Regiment will move into Cottesmore . They are due to arrive in June and July.

Today sees the RAF flag lowered at the RAF base in Cottesmore and bring to a end seventy four years of history. The Harriers that were at the based have long gone, sold by the Government for peanuts to the Americans who must be rubbing their hands on buying a whole fleet of serviceable combat aircraft for so little.
