Most were pleased to see it. Some traders not so pleased parking restrictions put in place
24hrs before the event were not popular. Many traders said they had lost trade. The problem
here in Oakham is many people wont shop, unless they can drive to the checkout.
Rutland County Council were contracted by unhappy traders, asking for the parking restrictions to be lifted after the even and they were told to move the yellow cones themselves.
I found the event quite fun, but then I did not lose any money, I was concerned to hear trains were stopped so the convoy did not get stuck at Oakham's level crossing. Something that never happens even for the Ambulance or Fire services. Even HRH Princess Anne had to wait.
And as a special treat to motorists who ignored the parking restrictions they found their cars had been towed away. Another first for Oakham.
The Convoy arrived in Oakham about 15 minutes late
