A senior Leicestershire Police officer and his wife have appeared in court charged with perverting the course of justice over a speeding incident.
Assistant Chief Constable Gordon Fraser, 48, and his wife Teresa, 42, also a serving officer, appeared at St Albans Magistrates' Court.
They are accused of falsely claiming she was the driver of a speeding car in Scotland in September, when it is alleged her husband was at the wheel.

Both were bailed until 22 October.
The speeding is alleged to have happened in Strathclyde, but the couple live in Ansley in Warwickshire.
Mrs Fraser works for West Midlands Police but has been suspended from duty.
Mr Fraser worked for West Midlands Police for 22 years before moving to Leicestershire in 2010.
Leicestershire Police said he had been suspended from duty over a separate matter.
The couple were asked to stand outside the dock at the court as the charge was read out.
Neither of them spoke during the hearing.
The next hearing will be at St Albans Crown Court.


Gordon Fraser took up the senior post in Leicestershire in  January 2010. He had worked in the West Midlands police force for 22 years.


Two unidentified West Midlands officers have been suspended and a member of the public is also being investigated.

The suspensions are all said to relate to officers' business interests.

In a statement Leicestershire Police Authority confirmed Mr Fraser's suspension from duty. 


"This follows on from an allegation received in relation to a business interest connected to Mr Fraser. This is now an ongoing investigation and therefore further details cannot be given at this time," it said.


West Midlands Police said the suspension of the two officers  followed an investigation into allegations of fraud and gross  misconduct.

"This is in connection with a business interest of the officers," said the force.

The matter was referred to the Independent Police Complaints  Commission (IPCC) which recommended investigation by another police  force.

Merseyside Police said it was conducting the inquiry.

"Merseyside Police can confirm that Chief Constable Jon  Murphy is conducting an investigation into a Leicestershire Constabulary  officer, two officers from West Midlands Police and a member of the  public following allegations of gross misconduct and fraud. The investigation is currently ongoing so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
