Rutland County Council Safer Driving course for older drivers

Safer Driving Course

20 places are now available on a Safer Driving course for older drivers that is being organised by Rutland County Council during September.

The council organises regular events like this and they always book up quickly, so residents are advised to get in touch as soon as possible if they would like to attend.

The next course has been planned for Monday 24 September (2.00pm-4.00pm) in the Council Chamber at Rutland County Council.

Councillor Roger Begy, Cabinet Portolio Holder for Road Safety, says: “Driving is more complex and demanding than it used to be.  The council organises these courses for older drivers on a regular basis and they prove extremely popular.  It’s a chance to have a quick refresher about driving and to discuss any issues that might concern you”.

Councillor Begy added: “There is considerably more traffic on the road and drivers have to process more and more information in the form of traffic signs and road markings plus dealing with all the new in car technology.  All of these topics will be covered at this FREE event”.

The FREE refresher driving courses are run by Tish Barnwell, Road Safety Officer and Barbara Boon, an Oakham based Advanced Driving Instructor.

The courses are theory based and will give you an update on the Highway Code as well as an opportunity to discuss any issues that may be concerning you.  Tea and cakes will be provided.

There will be an opportunity to take advantage of a free practical lesson at a later date with an Advanced Driving Instructor.
