What Oscar Wilde called his ‘trivial play for serious people’ must be the most enduring and delightful of English comedies. The dedicatedly silly Algernon loves Gwendolen, Bunburying and muffins: Jack searches haplessly for love (and his own name), the Reverend Chasuble pursues the smouldering Miss Prism, and looming over them all is one of the most unfeasible characters of English theatre, Lady Augusta Bracknell. A plot of fiendish cleverness and endless improbable coincidence is guaranteed to have you bamboozled if you don’t know it, to surprise you once again if you do, and keep you laughing all night either way. An evening of sheer delight and immortal wit. London Classic Theatre make a long overdue return visit after their excellent production of The Caretaker some eight years ago. Adding to the contemporary ambience there will be music by musicians of Uppingham School, and muffins... Tickets £15.00 / £12.50 / £9.50 schools www.uppthearts.co.uk |
