Being Human Thursday October 4th at 7.30pm in Uppingham Theatre

Being Human
Thursday October 4th at 7.30pm in Uppingham Theatre
A full-length live literature show based on the Bloodaxe Books' anthology of contemporary world poetry, Being Human.
Featuring three professional actors, Being Human brings to life the final volume in Bloodaxe's acclaimed trilogy of anthologies, the first two of which toured successfully to venues across the country, introducing contemporary poetry to new audiences. The range of poetry in Being Human complements the first two anthologies: thoughtful and passionate poems about living in the modern world; poems that touch the heart, stir the mind and fire the spirit; poems about being human, about love and loss, fear and longing, hurt and wonder.

This is a rich performance of contemporary poetry brought to life skilfully and enchantingly by a trio of professional actors who can effectively communicate its value to audiences.

'I love Staying Alive and keep going back to it. Being Alive is just as vivid. But this new book feels even more alive - I think it has a heartbeat' - Meryl Streep

The Importance of Being Earnest Wednesday January 23rd - Friday January 25th at 7:30pm Uppingham Theatre

The Importance of Being Earnest
Wednesday January 23rd - Friday January 25th at 7:30pm Uppingham Theatre

What Oscar Wilde called his ‘trivial play for serious people’ must be the most enduring and delightful of English comedies. The dedicatedly silly Algernon loves Gwendolen, Bunburying and muffins: Jack searches haplessly for love (and his own name), the Reverend Chasuble pursues the smouldering Miss Prism, and looming over them all is one of the most unfeasible characters of English theatre, Lady Augusta Bracknell. A plot of fiendish cleverness and endless improbable coincidence is guaranteed to have you bamboozled if you don’t know it, to surprise you once again if you do, and keep you laughing all night either way. An evening of sheer delight and immortal wit.
London Classic Theatre make a long overdue return visit after their excellent production of The Caretaker some eight years ago. Adding to the contemporary ambience there will be music by musicians of Uppingham School, and muffins...

Everyman Monday January 14th at 7.15pm Uppingham Theatre

Everyman
Monday January 14th at 7.15pm Uppingham Theatre

Everyman is the most famous of the great English morality plays which came before Marlowe and Shakespeare. Devised for and by ordinary people, performed in the street or public buildings, they carried a simple message about living a moral life.
Everyman is minding his own business when he has an unexpected visit from Death. God needs someone to account for the sinfulness and immorality he sees in the world, and so Everyman he must embark on a spiritual journey to cleanse his soul and make him fit for heaven. Will he be able to rid himself of all his earthly baggage, or is he just too human?

Splendid blend the medieval with the modern, smudging the black and white moral certainty of 16th century England with the multi-coloured contemporary swirl. Using early theatrical traditions andCommedia inspired characterisation, they will investigate the very nature of humanity. What does it mean to be 'good'?

This delightful story has kept audiences laughing for well over a century. Jerome K. Jerome's classic tale of boating misadventure has become the quintessential example of the charm and wit of Victorian England.

In an attempt to escape the stresses of city life three friends J, Harris and George plus their faithful canine companion Montmorency decide to take a boating jaunt between Kingston and Oxford. However a trip intended to relax and rejuvenate quickly becomes a journey of unquenchable comedy, with death defying battles with swans, culinary disasters and contrary tea kettles just a few of the challenges facing the trio along the way.
In this imaginative, new adaptation, the acclaimed and award winning Original Theatre Company take this classic tale by the scruff of the neck. Full of energy, song and just three actors playing all the characters along with a handful of props create all the high jinks and hilarity of the most famous boating holiday in history.

Produced by The Original Theatre Company , directed by Alastair Whatley and Craig Gilbert.

"A modern classic, a rich and heady brew...utterly enthralling"
"It is a pleasure to have the play hammered home by such a gripping cast under Alastair Whatley's strong direction."
Tickets £15.00

Mother Courage and Her Children Thursday November 1st at 7.15pm in Uppingham Theatre

Mother Courage and Her Children

Thursday November 1st at 7.15pm in Uppingham Theatre
Friday November 2nd at 7.15pm in Uppingham Theatre
"They're waging war for Almighty God and in the name of everything that's good and lovely, but look closer, they ain't so silly" - Mother Courage
Two ideologies collide in a conflict that stretches across a continent and threatens the balance of world power. In its midst, one woman, her three children by her side, sees an opportunity to survive, a way to profit from the slaughter by selling goods to both sides. And the time is about to come when, in her quest for material gain, she must make the ultimate sacrifice.

Regarded by many as the greatest play of the 20th century and even the greatest anti-war play of all time, Mother Courage and Her Children asks fundamental questions about the effects our beliefs have on the world and the role of ideology in society and world affairs.

Lee Hall's (The Pitmen PaintersWar Horse screenplay) brilliant translation of Brecht's masterpiece is accessible, fresh and bang up to date. Brought to the stage by Blackeyed Theatre (who brought Oh what a Lovely War! to Uppingham last year) with breathtaking ensemble performances and live music, Mother Courage and Her Children is an unforgettable theatrical experience.

"Magnificent...Extraordinary...As haunting as it is harrowing...Astonishing power... Catch it if you can"
The Stage on last year's production of Oh! What a Lovely War
Tickets £15.00, £12.50

Groups (10 or more) & Schools £9.50

While working in an art gallery, a nerdy and conscientious student named Adam meets an iconoclastic artist named Evelyn and is instantly smitten. When events progress and Evelyn's antics become darker, her influence begins to twist Adam and his friends in hurtful and surprising ways.

Jim Tavare Monday January 18th at 7.15pm Uppingham Theatre

Jim Tavare
Monday January 18th at 7.15pm Uppingham Theatre

Probably best known for his role as Tom the Innkeeper in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Jim Tavaré's career as actor and comedian has included writing and starring in ITV's BAFTA winning The Sketch Show, his own comedy series co-written with Ricky Gervais, 3 appearances on The Royal Variety Performance, and several private functions for the British Royal Family. He is Prince Charles' favourite comedian.
In the USA he was winner of International Starsearch, was the only overseas act to reach the final of NBC's Last Comic Standing, and has guested on numerous primetime shows. He enjoyed his last visit to Uppingham so much that it was relatively easy to persuade him to return, bearing his double-bass, to flag up next week's Uppingham Chamber Music Festival.

Chris Ramsey - Feeling Lucky Friday November 16th at 7.30pm Uppingham Theatre

Chris Ramsey - Feeling Lucky

Friday November 16th at 7.30pm Uppingham Theatre

If you saw Chris Ramsey's hilarious Offermation in April, you'll not want to miss his new show. InFeeling Lucky Chris wonders about how we got here. Elaborately laid plans, or just pure fluke? Russell Howard's Good News, and soon to be playing the lead role in the brand new BBC2 sitcom Hebburn, Chris' April show was a sell-out nationwide in April, so don't miss out on his Uppingham show this time.
