Rutland County Council is to contribute to the ever growing mountain of bags shoved through our doors
some are of course supporting good charities and others are just companies out to make money by deceiving the public and taking from charities.

Rutland County Council has teamed up with Planet Aid UK Ltd

Planet Aid can be found claiming to be a charity, a search at the charities commissions web site
shows this not to be true..

Red/Green Bag Collections

Green BagRecycling clothes and small electrical items will be easier than ever before thanks to a new recycling scheme being trialled by Rutland County Council.
The council is working closely with the not for profit companyPlanet Aid to supply every property in the county with a red bag to recycle small electrical goods, and a green bag to fill up with clothes and shoes.
Ahead of the new six month trial scheme starting on Monday 8 April, every property will shortly receive an information leaflet and their green/red bags.  Items recycled by residents will help raise money to fund aid work in Africa and India.

Councillor Martyn Pocock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Recycling commented: “Despite already having the 7th highest recycling rate in the country, we are always looking for ways to improve the service we offer.  I am sure residents will welcome these collections in addition to the charities they already support.”
Councillor Pocock added: “The green and red bags will be collected from outside your property on the same day as your grey recycling bin, although not necessarily at the same time.  All residents have to do is place the bags at the side of the bin ready for collection.  They will be picked up during the day and new bags left ready for next time.”
Planet Aid UK is a not for profit company which raises funds for development work in India and Africa.   Any ‘shop-quality’ textiles are donated to the registered charity DAPP UK for sale in charity shops in this country. The rest are passed on to Planet Aid’s long-term contacts in Africa, Pakistan and Eastern Europe where they are re-used. Small electrical items will be either re-used or recycled.
The red electrical collection bag can be used for things like mobile phones, remote controls, small radios, hairdryers, kettles and toasters. It does not matter if the items are broken.
The green clothing bag can be used for recycling adults and children’s clothes and pairs of shoes that are in good condition.  Other items that can be placed in the bag include good condition belts, handbags, belts, soft toys, curtains and blankets.
Properties on the Farms and Lodges’ collection round will receive a slightly different collection service as part of the trial based on an appointment system. Full details will be supplied in the information leaflets due to be delivered soon.
For more information please wait until you receive the information leaflet which should be delivered to every house by the end of March.
The scheme gets underway on Monday 8 April and you can contact Rutland County Council for more details at www.rutland.gov.uk/recycling or call 01572 722 577.
