No Place Like Home, Oakham, Rutland, Litter
I read a awful column in a paper (for legal reason I can not name the author and possible the paper due to Leicestershire Police, Rutland County County Councils Oppressive Restrictions of my freedom of expression )
The column writer is excited about driving about polluting the environment by driving more than 1000 miles
in one week.
They are highly critical of the British Litter Disease nothing wrong with that. Although they do appear
to view Oakham and Rutland through some very tinted glasses.
I often walk in our countryside and its very upsetting to see it spoilt by mountains of litter.
On route to Ashwell it is evident one motorists enjoys a regular smoke at a farmers gate. You will
find 100's of packets of the same brand of cigarettes, the spirit, wine bottles and beer cans litter nearly
every grass verge throughout Rutland, even if it has a sign pointing out its a nature reserve.
Yesterday afternoon I took a short walk around our town and like most days accept when there
is a military parade, litter can be seen in every possible place, I publish just a few photographs below.
In conclusion both our Councils spend thousands picking up some of the litter, Rutland or Oakham
is no different from the rest off the UK.
The British litter bug is also well known abroad.
For example if you ever visit the South of Portugal and stop to pick nick you can always
spot where a British tourist has stopped before.
