Oakham Town Council, By-election 2013

I am pleased to say, I have accepted a nomination to stand as a Independent
Candidate in an attempt to return to Oakham Town Council.

The Election for the Oakham South East seat if contested will be held on the 15th August 2013

Oakham Town Council is holding a Drop in Session advertised on Oakham Town Council web site

Oakham Town Council will be holding a Drop in Session on Saturday July 6th 2013 in the Gallery in the Victoria Hall. Town Councillors will be on hand to tell members of the public about the role of the Council and to give out information relating to the forthcoming election in Oakham South East.

The event will run from 9.00 am until 1.00pm

I am told Oakham Town Council is attempting to find a person to stand against me.

It is not the job of any councillor to do this and it is unlawful.

The Council should be answering questions from the public about co-option onto the other two
wards that we did not call an election in.

One of the seats has been vacant since 2010.

I understand the invites to stand against me are coming from Councillors on medication or those offered
it by their GP.

If you do attend the drop in session those Councillors should only give you information about the role,
your eligibility and how to obtain a nomination pack from Rutland County Council. They should not
ask you to stand.

The easy route for you is Co-option, but you have to be liked or known by a Councillors to achieve this.
half the council is currently co-opted. Cllrs are required to declare if they know a person who
seeks co-option and they must not ask them to apply. No Councillor has ever declared knowing anyone
interested in co-option even though some belong to the same associations and clubs.

This also includes the Clerk who once messed up Mrs Tyers attempt to return to the Council
because Mrs Tyers slipped up and wrote in her application the Clerk had requested she applied.

I think we all know that is the democratic process here in Oakham and Rutland but it was
rather foolish to put it in writing...

I thank the many local people who signed the call for election.

I also thank the local business owners who nominated me, because they
"believe in freedom of speech"
