Sir Clive Loader, Young people in Rutland are being asked for their views on
what they think are the most effective ways to tackle crime.
The Police and Crime Commissioner, Sir Clive Loader (pictured right),
plans to attend the next meeting of the Rutland Youth Council on 11 September
as part of a new initiative to involve young people in finding solutions to crime.

Rutland and Leicestershire is the first area in the country to sign up to a
‘Youth Commission’ pilot project in which the Commissioner will work in partnership
with young people in a ‘Big Conversation’ to develop strategies to address urgent
issues in their areas, including offending and re-offending, hate crime, and drug crime.

Councillor Kenneth Bool, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, commented:
“It’s important young people are given the opportunity to make their views heard
on what they think are the most effective ways to tackle crime.  I’m sure the
Youth Council are looking forward to a productive meeting with the Police and
Crime Commissioner.”

Sir Clive Loader, Police and Crime Commissioner for Rutland and Leicestershire,
said: “This engagement with young people is one the most important initiatives that
I’m working on as Commissioner.  Young people want to be seen as part of the
solution, not a problem, and allowing them to have their voices heard is already
proving enormously beneficial.”

Between July and October, the ‘Big Conversation’ will ask 2,000 young people
across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland for their views on what needs to be
done to tackle crime and improve policing.

Under the guidance of a voluntary youth advisory group the project will form an
on-going dialogue with Sir Clive aimed at supporting, challenging and informing
his work.  The final results will be published at the end of the year.
