Dear Mr Brookes
Re: Captain Noel Newton
Further to my previous email I can confirm that, having investigated the back ground further, it appears that his army records from WW1 refer to him as Captain and later as Major, but when he was later a member of Oakham Council he is listed as Captain. The War Museum has suggested that captain was his permanent rank and he was an acting major.
Therefore we are happy to name our new pub Captain Noel Newton.
Many thanks for raising this matter with us as it is certainly worth rechecking all our data to ensure the accuracy of the information provided to us.
Kind regards
Carolyn
