No. 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force Freedom of Entry Oakham Waste of Tax Payer Money

Oakham Mayor Adam Lowe interrupted and reassured Cllr Dodds by telling her "it's an auxiliary regiment made up of older personal, who would be unlikely to run through the town let alone fight" (11/12/2013)

Cllr Stubbs interrupted and told the Mayor  "be careful what you say!"

Sunday, September 21 2014

All members of the public are welcome to attend the event, which will commence with a dedication service conducted by Canon Lee Francis-Dehqani in All Saint’s Church at 2pm, assisted by Rev Brian Nicholls, officiating chaplain to the military.

The event will also be supported by the Royal British Legion, Royal Air Force Association, Air Training Corps and Army cadets

After the service 504 Squadron will form up in the Market Place for an inspection by the Lord Lieutenant and the mayor Jayne
Woodcock.

The mayor will then present the scroll granting the freedom which will be ‘trooped through the ranks’ on parade.

Following the presentation, the squadron led by the band, will march along Catmose Street, South Street, Mill Street, High Street, Northgate and dismiss in Church Street.

The salute will be taken by the Lord Lieutenant, AVM Lord Beaverbrook and the Mayor at the junction of High Street and Church Street.

This event is organised to please Oakham's Deputy Mayor Cllr Alf Dewis, Some body should really by him a set of tin soldiers to play with.

At this years annual town meeting Mrs Beech wife of former Mayor Paul Beech
spoke out against the granting of the freedom and questioned why a request from
another regiment was turned down? and suggesting they had more connection to
our town. I agree with her objection, I don't agree with her suggestion, why
should a regiment have tax payers money wasted on it especially when it writes
begging for the so called honour. This honour is a costly outdated honour
that only really interests the old guard and their friends made up mainly of bullying
old thugs. Especially now evidence has emerged Former Mayor Jim Harrison and
Maureen Dodds condone harassment and violence. Not forgetting the Homophobic
element led by Cllr Charles Haworth and Joyce Lucas. All those named are connected
to events mention in this item:

Personally I believe it would be honourable of this regiment if it was to turn down

this honour offered by this dishonourable town council and wait for the
honour they are to receive from Peterborough a place closer to their base.

Freedom of Entry to be granted to "old unfit" 504 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force, RAF Wittering

Freedom of Entry to be granted to "old unfit" 504 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force, RAF Wittering

This evening our Town Council decided to grant the honour of Freedom of Entry
to a RAF Wittering Regiment.

Not before a farcical debate was held. I may not agree with the public expenditure for such events, but it is times like this evening I find our town council embarrassing.

Cllr Lockett stated he did not support the proposal, suggesting the council should not grant the honour upon just any odd regiment, to do so would degrade the current freedoms issued.

Cllr Dewis pointed out the regiment had local connections and was previously attached to
RAF Cottesmore. The regiment also parades through the town on Remembrance Day.

Cllr Guthrie said he supports the spectacle anything that encourages tourism.

Cllr Maureen Dodds demanded an explanation, "what does the freedom mean to Oakham?"

"All these bainits  fixed and drums does this mean they could turn up in town and do what they
like? and what if both groups met in the middle of town?".............................

Cllr Alf Dewis attempted to explain that if granted it would be a grant honour for the regiment.

Oakham Mayor Adam Lowe interrupted and reassured Cllr Dodds by telling her "it's an auxiliary regiment made up of older personal, who would be unlikely to run through the town let alone fight"

Cllr Stubbs interrupted and told the Mayor  "be careful what you say!"
