Network Green Deal Ltd of Oakham, Rutland, "ripped off my constituent" Andrew Stunnell MP Retracts Allegation

Points of Order

2.14 pm
Sir Andrew Stunell (Hazel Grove) (LD): On a point of order, Mr Speaker. In questions to the Department of Energy and Climate Change on Thursday last week, I raised the case of a constituent who felt that she had been hard done by by a company, which I proceeded to name and to describe in unfavourable terms. That company and my right hon. Friend the Member for Rutland and Melton (Sir Alan Duncan), in whose constituency the firm is based, have made fervent and strong representations to me, which I fully acknowledge. In my attempt to convey just how anxious and concerned my constituent was, I clearly used language that went well beyond what the facts would substantiate. I want to make it clear to the House that I withdraw those remarks, although I still intend to give my constituent whatever help I can in this matter.
Mr Speaker: I am extremely grateful.
Sir Alan Duncan (Rutland and Melton) (Con): Further to that point of order, Mr Speaker. I thank the right hon. Member for Hazel Grove (Sir Andrew Stunell) for his courteous and fulsome retraction. The reputation of the company in my constituency is intact. I am grateful to him for his courtesy.
Mr Speaker: Honour is served. I believe that both right hon. Members, and the House, are satisfied.

11 Nov 2014 : Column 1324

On Friday my fellow directors and I were shocked and extremely upset to see that the integrity of one of our companies, Network Green Deal Ltd, was slurred in the house of commons. We have always prided ourselves in only ever adopting the highest possible morals and principles in business. It was really due to your blog that this was brought to our attention.
The matter that Sir Andrew Stunell MP brought up in the House had already been investigated by trading standards and the Green Deal ombudsman, both of whom found that Network Green Deal had acted entirely properly. I’m sure you can understand our outrage that Sir Andrew had not even bothered to investigate this before issuing his accusations.
We immediately contacted Sir Andrew and copied the Chief Whip of the Lib Dems to express our dissatisfaction and to put him straight on the facts. We also contacted Sir Alan Duncan whom I must say has been excellent. Due to our combined efforts I am pleased to tell you that a full retraction and apology was given yesterday in parliament.
I am not happy with the retraction as it does not name our company.

Network Green Deal Ltd of Oakham, Rutland, "ripped off my constituent" Andrew Stunnell MP

A few weeks ago UKIP displayed an allegation about RAS

Andrew Stunell (Hazel Grove, Liberal Democrat)

My constituent Sara Martin has been ripped off by Network Green Deal Ltd of Oakham, Rutland, a green deal assessment firm. She complained but her complaint has fallen because she did not take out the green deal itself. Her complaints to the regulator and the Department of Energy and Climate Change were brushed off, as were mine. Will the Secretary of State meet me to find an urgent remedy for my constituent and others like her who are victims of assessment firms that recklessly, or perhaps fraudulently, take money from them?

Is the Rutland Firm starting to crumble?

UKIP Councillors raised concerns with Leicestershire Police about suspected frauds.
They say Leicestershire Police refuse to investigate on each occasion.

STUNELL URGES STOCKPORT TO GO GREEN

June 28, 2013 12:44 PM
Andrew Stunell MP is urging Stockport home-owners to get signed up to the Green Deal, which would see their energy costs drop and the value of their home rise, whilst doing their bit to save the planet at the same time.Green Deal logo
New research has shown that making energy saving improvements to a home in Stockport could increase its value by over £10,000.
Commenting, Andrew said -
"Making your home more energy efficient will save you loads of money on bills, give you a snugger home, and according to this survey, mean its value goes up when you sell it. Under the Green Dealyou don't even have to put any money up front to do the work. It's an absolute no-brainer!"
To encourage take up of the Green Deal the Government plans on opening 'Show Homes' across the country to demonstrate the benefits of going green.
Commenting, Andrew said -
"Opening Green Deal show homes is a great idea. We have a brilliant local example of an ultra-low energy home here in Stockport - the Marple Eco House, run by MESS. I wrote to the Energy Minister to draw his attention to this, as I think it'd be a perfect model to base all the other show homes on."
