Oakham Town Council, Illegal Co-options, Leicestershire Police Hope Council will reverse decision. Clerk goes home sick

Oakham Town Council, Illegal Co-options, Clerk goes home sick.

In 2013 the town council co-opted two councillors illegally.

The Chairman of Oakham Town Council, recently wrote to me
confirming mistakes were made, adding they will learn
from those mistakes.

I have politely challenged Cllr Leanne Martin, she responded by
saying she accepted her position on the council in good faith and
added I am rude!

I find it extraordinary she claims to be qualified in
law and inaddition studied politics that she takes this stance.
I assume she mainly studied the politics of non democratic
regimes.

Cllr Leanne Martin has and continues to bring the council
into disrepute.

Due to her unlawful status, I would suggest any decision
made by this council since her co-option, could and should be
challenged in a court of law by anyone affected by those
decisions.

The same should be applied to all the business conducted at last
Wednesday's meeting. After the council unlawfully co-opted
their newest member and permitted them to join the meeting.

I understand since that meeting, the council has written to all
candidates advising them, that they are currently seeking
legal advice.

Cllr Alan Walters said we have made  a "big boo boo"

The Clerk can not be blamed for this error.

The blame ultimately rests with Cllrs Alf Dewis and
Stan Stubbs.

Cllr Alf Dewis surely he is not so simple, that he can make
such a foolish error? with the full knowledge of the Chairman's
letter and also considering only a few weeks ago sat next to the
same chairman and observed the correct legal procedure being
adhered to.

The way in which Cllr Dewis conducts himself constantly brings
the council into disrepute and he should take responsibility for
his actions and resign.

As for Cllr Stubs he suggests he was lawfully elected.
I would suggest he was not.

The vacancy was advertised by the Returning officer.

No resident called an election.

A notice of co-option was advertised the town council
failed to co-opt.

I then went out and found 10 people to call an election
The returning officer accepted this letter and the
election was called.

Returning to the unlawful co-option last week, Leicestershire
Police accept the town council, made an error.
They understand Oakham Town Council is seeking legal
advice on how they can reserve the decision and hope they
will do just that ASAP so they won't need to take further
action.

Personally I think Leicestershire Police are being to
soft, knowing this authority has been subject to numerous
allegations in the past. Allegations which they have always
denied and corrupted officers to take their side.

Now the town councils law breaking can be filmed and
published that task is currently proving a little difficult
for them.
