BBC World Service chiefs left red-faced after a guest who was invited on the show to discuss Star Wars turned out to be a Twitter hoaxer Godfrey Elfwick extreme views
Godfrey Elwick – a student from York who describes himself on his Twitter bio as a ‘demisexual genderqueer Muslim atheist’ and whose account pokes fun at political correctness – was invited to appear on the show World Have Your Say last week after claiming never to have seen Star Wars.
The BBC admitted: ‘On this occasion the Force was not with us. The guest presented himself as a 20-year-old who’s never seen Star Wars, and we put him on air under that pretence.
‘Producers always do their best to check guests in a live programme that invites global discussion from listeners.’
