JD Wetherspoon, Considering Closing The Captain Noel Newton Oakham Rutland
A Rutland County Councillor has told me Wetherspoons is considering closing its
pub here in Oakham.
It is possible Cllr Dave Richardson may have the information the wrong way round it
perhaps its Rutland County Council who are considering shutting it down?
The reason being given is the arrival of trouble since Oakham's Deputy Mayor and his Town Partnership Team pushed for the closure of Calico, which was located in premises on Mill Street.
The premises in Mill Street have remained empty since closure last year.
Mr Dewis and his team failed to attract Pizza Express.
Mr Dewis and his teams lack of any basic business knowledge!
Mr Dewis and his team were never young and never enjoyed a night out
with music and dance.
How did they think Pizza Express would be able to generate such a large footfall when
many of the town smaller outlets struggle to attract customers?
Staff at Wetherspoons were late home again this morning after giving statements to the police
after 2am in the morning.
It would be a shame if Wetherspoons was to close its Oakham pub. I assume
if they did, the problem would then move onto the Grainstore or perhaps
the large Marstons currently being constructed on the new housing estate.
I wonder why Wetherspoons who don't play music and claims to be a family
orientated venue and remains open until 1am on Friday and Saturdays? It seems a bit
odd, I can't imagine any family sitting in a pub eating after 11pm on a Friday
or Saturday. The "responsible"drink seller seems to be fuelling a well known
issue in town for profit. Perhaps it should consider its opening hours?
