Councillor Lynn Senior (Labour) One of Leicester's assistant mayors has quit after just three weeks in the post. Sir Peter said: "Lynn is a very conscientious councillor with a fairy. I think that must be a Mercury Typo.

Councillor Senior says in the Leicester Mercury

"It's become clear to me over the past couple of weeks that I won't be able to dedicate the time needed to lead on these important services and also keep up with the large volume of work that a ward encompassing the city centre and other areas generates.

"I have therefore advised the city mayor that I will be stepping down from the executive with immediate effect in order to continue to concentrate on my ward commitments."

Sir Peter said: "It's disappointing that Coun Senior can't remain on the executive as she would have made a valuable contribution.

"I am taking a fresh look at how we manage the neighbourhoods portfolio and will be discussing this with colleagues over the next few days."

Tory opposition councillor Ross Grant said: "It's ironic that she's saying she needs to focus on her work in the ward because I've had people complaining to me that she didn't do that much before.

"If she was that concerned about it she wouldn't have taken the job in the first place.

"It's fairly careless to lose an assistant mayor after such a short time. Perhaps the mayor didn't fully explain what the job entailed to her.

"It doesn't reflect well on his management style."

Sir Peter said: "Lynn is a very conscientious councillor with a fairy significant job covering the city centre as a ward councillor.

"People sometimes discover when they take a job there is more to it. It happens in politics as it happens elsewhere in the world."
