£300 of criminal damage caused at Oakham Skate Park
Earlier today the council's contractor secured the unfinished skate park in Cutts Close.
Sometime between 8.30pm and 9.00pm some people decided to destroy the most of the
fence using rocks they even managed to damage to a couple of the support blocks.
I also noticed some damage to one of the new ramps.
This very disappointing and even more disappointing was listening to to a young
man telling me the damage will continue to happen if the council does not give them
what they want.
I asked what do they want? and was told the council should give them a skatepark
built by Chris from Flo Skate. You have to admire their loyalty to this man
who has received over the years more money than the new park has cost.
and from what I am being told by a Councillor there could be an issue
surrounding payments received. I wonder if it has anything to do with the time
I heard a council employee asking his wife if a cheque should be made out to
the company or a personal name. I have mentioned this on a previous posts.
The young man also said the Town Council must get them a McDonalds,
I think by this he meant an outlet
I don't think he was suggesting the Oakham taxpayers should pay for free Happy
Meals for all?
The skatepark has a CCTV camera pointing at it from Burley Road and
it looks like the silly lads departed over the castle wall which also has very good CCTV.
Some Councillor are considering scrapping the skatepark which part of me agrees
with, but that would be unfair to those who use it the most children,
Some adults have joined social media comment and have been critical of the
town council for asking the contractors to secure the site.
One local business man is even suggesting a riot?
On one page
a person suggests we will be banning children climbing trees next. That is not the
case the skatepark has some very shoddy dangerous defects like the one shown
below. the metal edge should not be visible as it is if a user slip of the side
this would have a cheese grater effect on a leg, arm or head.
