Oakham Town Council Casual Approach Towards Staff Sickness and Absence
On Monday the Clerk cancelled a planned meeting saying he was sick and needed
a snooze and hoped to be well enough to return to work by the end of the week.
This morning I received an email from the Clerk about a council matter.
I thought good he has recovered and returned to work. So I telephoned the
office to discuss a couple of issues the Assistant Clerk said he was unavailable
to speak because he was just leaving because he was off sick.
In the private sector this casual approach towards staff absence would not be tolerated
so why is it tolerated at Oakham Town Council.
It appear the Clerk is well enough to walk into work as an when he feels.
This is not a responsible use of taxpayers money, if he is unwell he should
stay away until he is fully recovered.
