Girl knocked Down Outside Catmose College Oakham Yesterday, Children's safety dependant on cost.

Girl knocked Down Outside Catmose College Oakham Yesterday, Children's safety dependant on cost.

A young girl was taken to hospital yesterday morning after being hit by a car in
Huntsman Drive she has suffered leg and facial injuries.

For a number of years people have been asking for a crossing to be installed
outside the school.

Children's safety depends on cost.

Wednesday June 25th 2014, the Clerk reported to Oakham Town Council the following

Zebra Crossing on Huntsman’s Drive

The office has been contacted by RCC who have said that, given the large difference in cost between a Zebra crossing and a Toucan crossing, Catmose College would prefer a zebra crossing.

After this week's accident the Principle of Catmose College Stuart Williams said
Catmose College had offered to pay for a crossing. If that is true why did Rutland
County Council approach Oakham Town Council for payment in May 2014?

Minute from Oakham Town Councils Planning and Parks meeting 22nd May 2014

REQUEST FOR ZEBRA CROSSING ON HUNTSMAN’S DRIVE (Appendix E)

It was proposed by Cllr Adam Lowe, seconded by Cllr Mrs Jayne Woodcock and unanimously agreed that Oakham Town Council supports the proposal of a crossing at Huntsman’s Drive but recommends a Pelican crossing on the grounds that it would be safer for the students and would be better for traffic flow.  However the Council would not be willing to make any financial contribution towards the cost.

Personally I think the time has come for Rutland County Council to stop asking
other organisations to pay for everything it is meant to pay for.
